Hard inquiries on your Experian credit report can make lenders see you as higher risk, especially if several appeared in a short window. If a hard inquiry was unauthorized, duplicated, or reported in error, you have the right to dispute it. This guide explains how ReadyVo™ files that dispute and why qualifying inquiries can be removed within 24 business hours after your documents are approved.

What is a hard inquiry?

A hard inquiry is recorded when a lender, dealership, landlord, or other company pulls your Experian credit file to make a decision about you. Unlike checking your own score, a hard inquiry is visible to other lenders who look at your report. A single inquiry usually costs a small number of points, but they stack. A file with many recent pulls can read as higher risk to a lender, which may affect a card, auto loan, or mortgage decision.

Which inquiries can be removed?

Not every hard inquiry qualifies for removal. Experian will only remove inquiries that meet specific criteria. The most common qualifying reasons are:

  • Unauthorized — you did not authorize the credit pull.
  • Erroneous — the inquiry appears to be reported incorrectly or duplicated.
  • Unknown — you do not recognize the inquiry or the company that pulled your file.
  • Not linked — the inquiry did not result in an account being opened on your Experian report.

Inquiries that you authorized and that resulted in an open account are generally considered linked and accurate. Accurate information cannot be removed from a credit file.

Important: this service is for Experian only. We do not work on Equifax or TransUnion inquiries.

The 24-hour removal process

Once your documents are approved, ReadyVo™ files the dispute directly with Experian. Because the work is already prepared and the file is complete, the actual submission happens quickly. Experian typically responds within 24 business hours, and you can see the result inside your ReadyVo™ account.

What documents do you need?

Four items are required so Experian can verify your identity and review the inquiries in question:

  • A full Experian credit report downloaded directly from Experian.com as a PDF.
  • A government-issued photo ID.
  • A recent utility bill showing your current address.
  • Your Social Security number, entered through a secure masked field.

What happens if nothing is removed?

If your request is filed and no inquiry is removed from your Experian report, you get a full refund. If at least one inquiry is removed, the service has been performed and the fee is not refundable. This zero-removal refund guarantee is part of every ReadyVo™ order.
